Youth

Youth on Sundays

Young people are encouraged to participate in the first 15 minutes of the main Sunday meeting when we worship together as a church and share family news. At around 10:45 am the children and youth leave the main meeting room to join their own groups. These groups are largely led by trained volunteers, identified by brightly coloured shirts with the SCF logo (colour designates group that they lead). We follow a bible-based curriculum and aim to include a range of age appropriate activities that incorporate different learning styles.

Fun, friendship and discipleship go hand in hand. There are 5 age groups and the group your child or young person will attend is determined by the school year group they are in.

  • Joiners – Birth and preschool age (leaders wear yellow shirts)
  • Explorers – Nursery to Reception (leaders wear green shirts)
  • Seekers – Year 1 and Year 2 (leaders wear blue shirts)
  • United – Year 3 to Year 6 (leaders wear red shirts)
  • Surround – Year 7 to Year 11 (leaders wear grey shirts)

From time to time we have an all-age service to allow us to be together as a whole church. This service is dynamic and interactive with elements for every age group within the church.

Youth

The vision for youth in SCF is to see our young people growing in their individual relationship with Jesus, while also growing in community and relationship with one another, finding the faith and the confidence to live out a life with Jesus in their everyday.

We want to build trusting relationships with all the young people we have contact with, and be alongside them in good times and challenging times as they grow and become young adults.

Surround

School Years 7-11
Wednesdays 7:00 pm – 9:00 pm (Term time only)

An evening group for young people in secondary school, open to all. We spend time playing games, sports, doing activities and getting to know each other. Most weeks there is a message either from the youth team or a guest speaker, where we talk about issues relevant to young people, things relating to faith in Jesus or stories from the Bible. Surround is a safe space where young people can be themselves, meet new friends and find help and support from our youth team. It is free to enter but we have a tuck shop where refreshments can be purchased.

School Years 12-13

Thursday 7:30 pm – 9:00 pm (Term time only)

Other things we do

As a youth group we love to get involved in the activities of Open Doors and regularly run their Blackout Weekend where young people give up technology to spend the time to learn about the persecuted church and pray for them. We also invite Open Doors Youth to be with us to run Secret Church sessions.

In this photo our Youth were taking part in a Sleep Out for Birmingham City Mission. We slept out in boxes with our friends from Hollywood Christian Life Centre and raised over £1000 for BCM who work with homeless people in Birmingham.

Summer Night Live

Every summer we take a group to Summer Night Live, which is a weekend camp run by a collection of South Birmingham Churches. It’s the highlight of the year where our young people build great friendships, learn a lot about faith and encounter Jesus in amazing ways.
