Our Vision

Where there is no vision the people perish. The Elders of SCF have sought the Lord and God has given us a specific vision. That vision starts with people who are growing deeper as disciples of Jesus Christ; people who will go on to demonstrate transformed lives. These transformed lives will become evident to others, who will then also come to know Jesus Christ for themselves.

The Elders continually seek God’s wisdom through The Bible and through prayer. As a church we are also fully committed to the priesthood of all believers and expect God to speak into and through everyone – regardless of age – within our church family.

Our Beginnings

SCF was formed in 1972 by a group of people from a range of church backgrounds (including Anglican, Baptist, Brethren) who were hungry for more of God in their lives.  Since those early beginnings we have grown as a church including developing our own building, The Bridge.  We firmly believe that The Bridge is a gift from God that we are to use it to help fulfill His vision for Shirley, Solihull and further afield.

SCF is part of the worldwide Christian Church and we adhere to mainstream Christian belief.

What we believe in

Understanding what we believe, knowing how we view key aspects of scripture.

In our modern world, through the power of the internet, we have wide access to people’s views and opinions. As Elders we believe it is important to be clear on the key aspects of our faith and what we, as members of God’s church here at SCF, believe. The following statements provide a summary outline of that belief.

We believe in:

1. The one true holy God, eternally existing in three equal persons—Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Everything in heaven and on earth, all that is seen and unseen, comes from the Father; everything that has been created has come through the Son;

2. The divine inspiration and supreme authority of the Old and New Testament Scriptures (Scripture / The Bible), which are the written Word of God—fully trustworthy for faith and conduct. We believe Scripture in its entirety originated with God and that He revealed it to chosen authors. Scripture speaks with the authority of God while simultaneously reflecting the backgrounds, styles, and vocabularies of these human authors. We hold that the Scriptures, in their original manuscripts, are infallible and inerrant; they are the unique, full, and final authority on all matters of faith and practice. There are no other writings similarly inspired by God. In all matters of faith and practice, Scripture is the final authority. In matters where Scripture is silent, believers should conscientiously seek to be led by God because it is to Him alone he or she is ultimately responsible;

3. The dignity of all people. We have all been made in His image to love, to be holy and care for creation; yet the human race has been corrupted by sin, which incurs divine wrath and judgement. We also believe teaching within Scripture that: God created humankind in His image, male and female, but with equal personal dignity; marriage, as defined in The Bible, is a permanent and exclusive consecrated union between one man and one woman established by God; sexual activity outside marriage is prohibited as sinful.

4. The love, grace and sovereignty of God in creating, sustaining, ruling, redeeming and judging the world. The central purpose of God’s revelation in Scripture is to call people into fellowship with Him;

5. The salvation of humanity is completely a work of God’s free grace; it is not in any way the result of human works or goodness. Everyone can have a relationship with Jesus Christ by receiving salvation through repentance and faith. God’s Word assures us that He will continue His saving work forever, in those who have accepted him as their Lord and Saviour;

6. The incarnation of God’s eternal Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. He was born of the virgin Mary; he was truly divine and truly human, yet without sin;

7. The atoning sacrifice of Christ on the cross: dying in our place, paying the price of sin and defeating evil, so reconciling us with God. Whilst on Earth he lived in perfect obedience to the Father, and voluntarily paid the price for the sins of all people by dying on the cross as their substitute. Through his death he satisfied divine justice, and brought salvation to all who trust in him alone. After his physical death, Jesus Christ rose from the dead and ascended into heaven to regain his full dignity and majesty within the Godhead, as the only intercessor between God the Father and humankind;

8. The bodily resurrection of Christ, the first fruits of our resurrection; his ascension to the Father, and his reign and mediation as the only Saviour of the world. He promises to return to earth, personally and visibly, to fulfil history, when he will hand over The Kingdom of God to the Father;

9. The ministry of God the Holy Spirit, who was sent by the Father and the Son. The Holy Spirit leads us to repentance, unites us with Christ through new birth, empowers our discipleship and enables our witness. As disciples of Jesus Christ we are called to live in accordance with his teaching; this includes submitting to guidance by the Holy Spirit who renews us, and comes to live within each of us, as we commit our lives to following Christ. The Holy Spirit guides believers in understanding and applying the Bible; he also becomes our source of assurance, strength, wisdom, and gifting, so that we can play our part in building up the church. The Holy Spirit’s work in us, as disciples of Jesus Christ, empowers us to lead a life of Christ-like character and bear fruit for the Father’s glory;

10. The Church, the body of Christ both local and universal, the priesthood of all believers—given life by the Holy Spirit and endowed with the Holy Spirit’s gifts to worship God and proclaim the gospel, promoting justice and love. All of us, who acknowledge Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord, are united with Him as members of his body, the one true church. Scripture commands believers to gather for worship, prayer, fellowship, and the teaching of the Word; to observe Baptism and Communion as established by Jesus Christ; to offer service to the body through development and use of talents and gifts and outreach to the world. The local expression of the church is wherever God’s people meet regularly in obedience to this command. Cared for and led by Elders and leaders, church members are to work together in love and unity for the ultimate purpose of glorifying Christ;

11. The personal and visible return of Jesus Christ to fulfil the purposes of God, who will raise all people to judgement, bring eternal life to the redeemed and eternal condemnation to the lost, and establish a new heaven and new earth. Death seals the eternal destiny of each person. All humanity will experience a bodily resurrection and a judgment that will determine the fate of each individual. Having rejected God, unbelievers will suffer eternal condemnation apart from Him. Believers will be received into eternal communion with God and will be rewarded for works done in this life;

12. Baptism is an outward expression of an inward commitment to a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Scripture teaches that all of us, who have: accepted Jesus Christ as our saviour and as Lord of our life, and have committed our lives to following him; are commanded to be baptised. When to get baptised is an individual decision; at that point the person being baptised must fully understand what it means for Jesus Christ to be the centre of their life;

13. Communion: during Jesus’ last days, He gathered the disciples in a room for the Passover Meal, during which they took bread and wine. His command was that, we should continue to remember him by sharing bread and wine (“Communion”); as we do this we remember the price He paid for our salvation “For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord’s death until he comes.” (1Cor11:26)

Charitable Objects

As a church, SCF is subject to legal requirements affecting the way we operate as an organisation, including: how we manage our finances, our employment of staff, safeguarding and health & safety.   Consequently, Solihull Christian Fellowship is established as a Registered Charity and Company Limited by Guarantee. SCF’s Directors are required by law to direct and manage the affairs of the Company and as Trustees, those of the charity.

The purpose of the charity is the advancement of the Christian faith and the support and care of children, young people, families and the elderly. The church runs groups for all these sections of the local community, as well as working in schools. We also support various projects in the third world. Our church centre is a resource for the local community and hosts a wide range of activities.

Safeguarding is a priority for SCF. Our safeguarding officer is Michelle Wilson-Davies and deputy safeguarding officer is Liz Massey.

The Team

At Solihull Christian Fellowship, we believe that God is the head of the Church and we take our lead from him. However, God has given gifts to different people in the body. SCF has a leadership structure made up of Elders and Deacons (Pastors). Both roles are appointed in the church and seen as Church Offices. Collectively, these two groups make up the Leadership of the church.

SCF’s Elders are called by God to have spiritual responsibility and oversight; they direct the church, and “shepherd the flock”;

SCF’s Pastors (Deacons) oversee our ministry areas and are responsible for the full development and growth of those areas.

SCF has established a “company limited by guarantee”. The Company is responsible for The Bridge & for employing our staff. A Board of Directors directs & manages the affairs of “the Company”.

Ben Lees

Lead Pastor & Elder

Ben joined SCF in 2010 and is passionate about seeing the church truly develop and grow as the family of God, demonstrating love for one another and those in our community.  Prior to joining SCF full-time Ben had spent 15 years in management in the finance sector.  Ben is married to Claire and they have four children, Sammy, Jacob, Chloe and Amelia

Andrea Lowndes

Associate Pastor & Elder

Andrea has been full-time staff with SCF since 2006 following  a management career in the insurance industry and her role includes overseeing our Sunday mornings and Worship, Women’s ministry and Community Engagement.  Andrea loves cooking, swimming and singing.

Craig Wood

Elder & Pastor

Craig is passionate about strengthening and supporting the SCF church family; so that together we can have a positive impact upon the lives of people we meet, and upon our whole community. For many years Craig has combined being a husband, a father of three daughters, and a leader within SCF, with leading international businesses. Outside SCF, Craig chairs a couple of charities which span between the commercial world and church; he also finds time for cycling, walking and travel.

Sally Murcutt

Missions Pastor

Sally has spent most of her life sharing God’s love to the most vulnerable communities around the world. She is passionate about bringing healing, physically and emotionally to those broken by ‘life’ – seeing Jesus restoring and making people whole.

Sue Wood

Discipleship Pastor

Sue has been a member of SCF since September 1990. Sue ran her own training development and management consultancy until 2014. She transferred this love of helping people to develop and learn into church life when she became Discipleship Pastor in 2016. Sue loves swimming, travelling the world with husband Craig and painting in watercolours.

Anna is involved in helping out with the junior aged children and is also chair of directors.

Berry Ho

Children's Worker Birth to Reception

Berry joined SCF in 2022. She is passionate about spreading God’s love, especially to children. She enjoys drawing, crafts as well as playing guitar during her free time.

Sally Hart

Children's Worker Reception to Year 6

Sally has been helping with our children’s work since joining SCF in 2010, and is passionate about seeing our children building a personal relationship with Jesus.  She was appointed as our Children’s Worker (ages 5-11) in 2022, and is now responsible for all aspects of our children’s ministry for primary aged children. She enjoys travelling and has been on a number of mission trips where she has worked with children and shared her faith with many people. In her spare time, Sally can often be found with a book in her hand or enjoying walks in the countryside.

Sammy Lees

Youth Support Worker

Sammy grew up in the Fellowship and has been part of the youth group.  He is now excited to serve the youth in a more ministerial capacity. He is part of our Worship Team, playing the guitar & singing. In his spare time you’ll see him on stage, with aspirations to be a fulltime actor. He is passionate about Jesus, and spreading His love with the young people, in the commuity.

Liz Massey

Additional Needs Champion

Liz has been a member of SCF since 2003. She has supported the running of children’s groups for younger children within the church for much of this time. Liz works with children with special educational needs as a teacher, and is passionate about supporting the church to ensure that activities and meetings are fully inclusive to people with additional needs. Liz is married with 2 children, and enjoys reading, and is learning to play the keyboard in her spare time.

Mable Melt

Finance Officer & Communications

Mable has been a member of SCF since 2018, and her versatile roles within our community echo her dedication to service across different domains. Mable is our part-time Finance Officer.  In her Communications role, she drives our digital initiatives, including curating and managing our social media presence. Beyond SCF, a devoted mother to Amelie and founded Mableade Services, offering administrative Virtual Assistant support to cause-driven businesses and professionals incl. charities,  non-profits and social causes. 

Michelle Wilson-Davies

Safeguarding Officer

Michelle is married and mum to two delightful children. Her background is in Social work, and she joined SCF in 2015. She has a heart for vulnerable groups, giving them a voice and ensuring their safety.

Heather Cole

Site Support Manager

Heather has been looking after the Bridge since 2020, maintaining the fabric of the building. Heather also organises room bookings and deals with enquries. Outside of SCF, Heather is involved in education, partners SKILLACRITY, owns a property management business, and helps run the charity Family Equip. Heather is married with 2 grown up sons and enjoys crafting in her spare time.

Role Profile Youth Worker 2023


We are looking for an individual who is passionate about working with youth and young people aged 11-18.  Solihull Christian Fellowship has a long track record of developing exciting and dynamic youth programmes that engage young people Spiritually, socially, and emotionally.  Post-Covid, we recognise that we are in a different world, and we find ourselves with the exciting challenge of seeking new opportunities to reimagine our youth work while building on previous foundations.

The focus for our youth worker will be in two areas; Spiritual discipleship of our current youth and outreach into our community to reach new young people, with a stronger emphasis on outreach and evangelism.

This role presents an opportunity for a creative individual to bring their gifts with youth to Solihull Christian Fellowship and to shape the youth work to reflect the times we face.

Main Responsibilities 

  • To build and deliver a youth strategy around the two focus areas of discipleship and outreach.
  • To support and inspire a team of volunteers to help implement the strategy.
  • To develop and grow a new outreach strategy which attracts young people in the community and aligns with the vision of Solihull Christian Fellowship.
  • Work with the Lead Pastor to provide discipleship and pastoral support for all aspects of youth work, both young people and their parents, in Solihull Christian Fellowship.

Main Tasks 

  • To ensure a weekly programme of teaching and activities on Sundays
  • To develop and run mid-week groups for fun and engagement both spiritually and socially, as required.
  • Working with the youth team to distribute rotas, assign tasks, and develop activities.
  • Responsible for developing events in line with the strategy.
  • Work with the wider leadership team to ensure integration between our youth and the wider church family.
  • Work closely with the children’s department in any areas of cross-over.
  • Work alongside SCF’s safeguarding team, taking on some responsibilities as required.
  • Any other duties as reasonably assigned by your line manager.

SCF is a medium-sized church of around 130 adults, plus children and youth, located in Shirley, Solihull.  SCF was formed in 1972 by a group of people from a range of church backgrounds who were hungry for more of God and His Holy Spirit in their lives.  Since those early beginnings, we have grown as a church, including developing our own building, The Bridge.  We are charismatic and evangelical and seek to allow God’s Holy Spirit to shape and guide what we do.

We are an active church both during the week and at weekends.  Situated at the edge of one of Solihull’s busiest parks, we see a great opportunity for evangelism and outreach with the hundreds of people who come into Shirley. SCF is part of the worldwide Christian Church, and we adhere to mainstream Christian beliefs.  SCF is also a member of Shirley Churches Together and the UK Evangelical Alliance and is committed to their stated aims and ethos.

Terms of Employment

  • Hours per Week – 26hr per week including evenings and some Sundays.
  • Salary Banding – £14900 (£21,500 FTE) – £17332 (£25,000 FTE)
  • Annual Holiday – 5 weeks + bank holidays prorated for part-time staff.
  • Pension – Pension contributions will be included as part of a statutory pension fund.
  • Probation Period – 3 months
  • Ideal start date – January 2024
  • Interviews to take place late Autumn 2023
